There are moments when we ‘get it’…

There are moments when we ‘get it’
as we see the kingdom come;
when the Spirit guides and pulls us;
“Father let your will be done.”

There are moments water splashes
on ourselves and then on others
when we no longer feel like hiding
and the story captivates us.

There are moments among others
lifting voice in prayer and song;
when we meet at word and table;
and know that we belong.

There are moments friendships hold us;
far greater than ourselves;
when pain and lament threaten;
but we know we are not alone.

There are moments when we stand alone;
while others seem in motion;
when we feel lost and forsaken;
when we wonder where God has gone.

There are moments of frustration
we nail our protests on the door.                                                                                                  there are moments of great healing;                                                                                            when our work is to restore.

There are moments full of sorrow,
when we ask, “what have I done?”
when we have no right to ask for mercy
but should stand silenced and shunned.

There are moments when forgiveness
“you have been saved by grace.”
No longer feel like empty words
but hit us in the face.

There are moments when estrangement
wonders, “can I ever forgive?”
Then we gather sinners in our arms
so we all can live.

There are moments we acknowledge
that some have gone away;
never will they sit among us
not tomorrow; not today.

There are moments when we see those
beyond our normal view;
when we grasp they are not enemies;
and wonder what to do.

There are moments when we realize
faith lives beyond the doors and walls;
when we take a risk and go outside
to where we are truly called.

There are moments of thanksgiving
when the church prepares us well
to go and meet with others
to listen and to tell.

There are moments where the face of God
is so clearly in another
when we no longer see a difference
in a sister or a brother.

There are moments those around us
shake their heads and wonder, “why?”
and we know that Jesus’ promise means
to live we first must die.

There are moments many moments
when our hearts continue burning
when we see him walk along the road
and never stop our yearning.

There are moments when the world in pain
seems futile and a loss
but there we gather once again
to kneel beside the cross.

For everything there is a season,
and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to throw away;
 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
What gain have the workers from their toil?
I have seen the business that God has given to everyone to be busy with.
He has made everything suitable for its time;
moreover he has put a sense of past and future into their minds,
they cannot find out what God has done
from the beginning to the end.
I know that there is nothing better for them
than to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live;
moreover, it is God’s gift that all
should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil.
I know that whatever God does endures forever;
nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it;
God has done this, so that all should stand in awe before him.
