Change seminary?

Doesn’t seminary education cost a lot of money and consume a lot of time as it is? Yes.

Don’t leaders need to know about the Bible, theology and how to plan worship? Yes.

Don’t leaders need training as they work with people in a crisis and how to process issues of death and dying? Yes.

Don’t leaders need to know how to “run” a church, work with, and develop other leaders within it? Yes.

Haven’t seminaries addressed these issues, and aren’t they teaching them now? Of course.

Times are changing, and how the church trains leaders must change as well. Here are two posts from Bishop Jim Hazelwood of the New England Synod – weighing in on the topic of seminary training in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America…
